DIPLOMA MECHANICAL ENGINEERING - WORKING PROFESSIONAL

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering for Working Professional is a three year unaided diploma program with minimum eligibility: Passed 10+2 examination with Physics / Mathematics / Chemistry / Computer Science / Electronics / Information Technology / Biology / Informatics Practices / Biotechnology / Technical Vocational subject / Agriculture / Engineering Graphics / Business Studies / Entrepreneurship Or SSC + 2 years ITI/COE and minimum 1 year full time work experience as per Directorate of Technical Education.

The Mechanical Engineering Department started functioning in 1963 with an initial intake of 40 seats. Later in 1966 the intake was raised to 60. The department was given autonomy by the Government of Maharashtra in 1994. In 2024, Working Professional Diploma was sanctioned with an intake of 30 students for students who already are employed and are interested in continuing their education.

We offer a three year diploma which is divided in six semesters. The curriculum is designed as per the feedback of stakeholders. The conducive environment at Somaiya Vidyavihar, excellent indoor and outdoor facilities supplemented by industrial visits and expert lectures help our students to develop their overall personality. Greenery in campus, sports facilities help in shaping the overall personality of students. Mechanical Engineering Department has been the preferred choice of students over the years in Mumbai region Faculty are encouraged to acquire knowledge and skills by improving qualification and attending industrial & other training so that their learning benefits students and institute development. Our alumni at higher ranks in industry and entrepreneurs are the proof of our success.
