Principal's Words
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the new session of Academic Year 2019-20. Session started with abundance and a blessing; Abundance of water through rain and blessing from Mother Nature. What a beautiful and serene way of starting something new.
There were dark clouds and down pour since last Five days and the administration of the City like Mumbai came to stand still. The city that never sleeps had come to grinding halt. Many of us stayed indoors in the warmth of our cozy homes and hostels. But there were some people who braved the torrent of rain and worked through the day. Among these was security dept. of Somaiya Vidyavihar. The leader of their team Security In-charge of Somaiya Vidyavihar Campus clicked pictures and recorded Videos of the Campus and messaged to all of us (thanks to technology, thanks to WhatsApp.). Looking at the Greenery, clean and neat Campus, brought cheer and smile on all our faces and drove the gloominess miles away. I salute to the undying spirit of my colleague and other fellow countrymen – police, coast guard, municipal workers, railway personnel to name a few who stand tough on such occasions and bring cheer & relief to one and all.
A thought then crossed my mind – why are the rains getting heavy and difficult? Why are the summers so scorching and draining? Mother Earth has given all its living organisms bountiful. From a single cellular creature to Homo sapiens nature has provided enough resources for every ones survival. It is, we, humans to prove our supremacy have messed up so much with nature that the entire ecology is disturbed and giving back what we did with it (destruction) to us.
Many of you are young in mid teens. We have young energetic and vibrant faculty. We are engineers by profession. Our logic and analysis is well developed. Can’t we all pledge to do our bit and save mother earth from further destruction? Can we not work together to heal her and bring life in full bloom back to her? As engineers, we need to contribute to environment. Civil Engineers can study weather Patterns, water harvesting schemes, reduction of pollution at micro level and evolve it into implementable schemes which every household can work on. Electrical & Electronic Engineers can work on Power saving, hybrid Power generation methods and how this can be implemented at our homes; while Mechanical & Computer Engineers can suggest methods of Pollution Control, Fuel efficiency, Clean fuel, hybrid systems, data analysis and usage respectively.
So, friends let us not just start the term but start a new way of looking at things – New perspectives, New possibilities.
Best wishes for a great year ahead.
